Single Category

2.1 Photography: images captured through photographic cameras of any device (smartphone, digital cameras, semi-professional and professional cameras, etc.). The photographs can approach two categories: "macro" and "scenario".

2.1.1. In the "macro" category, the focus of the image will be on the sharpness of the texture and morphology of the individual(s).

2.1.2. In the "scenario" category, the focus will be on the plurality of the environment.

2.2 Scientific Illustration: images created manually on paper or software, including drawings and paintings, among others. Illustrations can be traditional or digital..

2.2.1. Traditional illustrations will be hand-drawn with manual techniques, using pencils, pens, brushes, etc.

2.2.2. Digital illustrations will be created using graphic design or digital painting software, such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Digital drawing tablets are allowed.

2.3 Artificial Intelligence generated art: digital art generated through websites or programs that use AI technology to create images from text. Unlike the previous modalities, in this one, you don't need visual, technical or artistic skills, you just need to know how to request the machine. Abstraction and nonsense are allowed as long as it is within the theme of the contest. Visit the website for more information on this type of image and how to create them.

3. Images

3.1 Photographs must be digital, in JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and 8 megapixels (3264 x 2448 pixels). Digital image manipulation is allowed.

3.2 Traditional illustrations must be made on A4 paper, in vertical or horizontal orientation. Digital illustrations must be saved in JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and 12 megapixels (4080 x 3072 pixels).

3.3 AI-generated art must be saved in JPG format. There will be no standardization of resolution and quality due to the limitations that users may have because of the tools used. However, we recommend that the generated quality be the best possible for a greater chance of selection (see item 5).

4.  Submission

4.1. Each participant may submit 1 (one) image per category, totaling 2 (two) images for the photography modality, 2 (two) for illustration, and 1 (one) for AI-generated art.

4.2. The file submission must be done through the form on the event website, under the "Contest" tab. The file name must be "Event registration number + category," for example: "1234 Macro." One form must be completed for each submission. Traditional illustrations will be accepted in scanned form, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. However, the original art must be brought to the event if it is selected.

5.   Selection and Exhibition at the Event

5.1 Images that do not meet the criteria in the previous items and that violate copyright will be disqualified. We recommend checking the AI-generated image on Google to ensure that the result did not closely resemble an existing work or violate any copyrigh.

5.2 The event's Scientific Committee will select 40 (forty) finalist images, eight (8) from each category (subject to change), to be printed and exhibited on a panel during the event. Selected traditional illustrations will have their original versions displayed.

6.   Evaluation/Voting

The evaluation will be carried out with the selected images, in three stages for the photography and scientific illustration categories, and two stages for AI-generated art.

6.1 Popular vote on the day of the event: It will be through printed votes during the event days. Each event participant can fill out a paper and put it in the ballot box for each category. Only one vote will be counted in the same category for each registration number.

6.2 Popular vote on Instagram: A "carousel" of each category with the finalist images will be posted on the official event Instagram. Each image will have a number, and voting will be through user comments with the image number they want to vote for. Only one vote per profile will be valid.

6.3 Jury vote: The photography contest commission will scale professionals for technical evaluation.

6.4 The final score for each image will be calculated by adding the average score of the juries, plus the score derived from the popular vote (with the most voted image receiving 10 points, and the least voted image receiving 1 point), plus the score derived from the Instagram vote (with the most voted image receiving 10 points, and the least voted image receiving 1 point), divided by 3.

AI-generated art will be exclusively judged by popular vote and Instagram vote.

7.  Awards

The first and second-place winners in each category will be awarded prizes. The prizes will be announced on the event website and social media.

8.   Image Use Authorization

Participants of this contest agree to allow the organizers of this edition of the event and the Graduate Program in Entomology at the Federal University of Viçosa to use their images for dissemination or publication on social media and as decorative material for exhibitions, always with proper credit attribution to the author, without the need for prior written authorization.
